Unit 11: preparing for progression

Strengths i have and others can identify from me-

1. completing paperwork by deadlines

2. editing on adobe premier pro

3. Realiability

4. Research

5. Creating an A.R / V.R video with stand out effects.

Career ambitions, 5 year future plan:

aim - To work for the radio business/ industry, start off by working for a hospital radio whether that be voluntary or minimum wage pay.

1 years time - Either be working part time or full time in a job related to the media industry or just have a job that i will have worked for over a year and then after saving earnings from it look for something different that i may enjoy more if the job isn't what i thought it would be.

2 years time - If the first year doesn't go to plan then i will look to take what i had planned for the first year and plan to achieve that within the second year and instead take a gap year within the first year.

3 years time - Be working thoroughly either in  a full time job or for the radio industry or as part of a production company / crew member that be either as a runner or as important as a cameraman or editor.

4 years time - Plan to either stay in England working full time hopefully for radio or media industry based job or take a gap year to america and take every opportunity available in open arms and act fast if its something i can see myself doing.

5 years time - To move to America and work further in the industry of media, the easiest way to achieve this is by taking a gap year to America to do some selective work to begin with then if all that goes well then i shall ask for any possible opportunities that might be upcoming and if so then i will act fast on it and not just live by myself in america, have a couple of people join me working for the industry. To begin in radio and move on to camera crew, cameraman or production work that will be probably part of the behind the scenes team and runner again.

Evaluating strengths and shortfalls :

Deadlines will be extremely important if i am able to get to work in the media business and more importantly for radio, for example arriving on time for shifts is a must and if not then the position of myself or that is available may be thought about twice and might not even given to me after all. I would say that i am very good at being on time and am very reliable, i have never missed a deadline at college and have produced work that is up to standard for the majority. The only thing that would make this an issue is travelling, if i was given the opportunity to work in a position that i have dreamt of then it would give me the motivation to arrive happy everyday, however with transport ( buses and trains ) this could be a slight issue if the times for departure don't suit the hours that i have been given.

Research is incredibly important when working a job in or related to the media industry, the main reason being that any part of production or shoot cannot be done until the crew and directors know every little part of what  they're going to be shooting for. In other words, the topic that the film will be based on will need to be clear and not confusing for audiences as that will instantly decrease the chances of a successful film even before its began.

Editing, is probably the most important part of a film, the person or if needed multiple people will only be given the task to edit if they are trained professionsals, if i were to be given a chance to edit a big new film or shoot then i would have mixed emotions one being, that i cant wait to see what i can create and make the actors and crew happy or it could be one of my shortfalls and i will have to ask for help from other members as messing up one of these will be an awful impression to others.

other possible shortfalls - creating a specific type of video e.g. AR OR VR effect videos and also the proposal/reading brief stage of the production.

How to reach my ambitions:

To get to where i intend to be working in the world of media, i will begin with voluntary work for a hospital radio to gain a little experience on what i intend to do working full time in years to come. For example, a hospital radio job at maidstone hospital and then further experience working for a local radio station, JUICE FM. What i would like to learn working in this job is to mainly learn how to use various types of mixing desks, live recordings and to help with moving and setting up equipment for example microphones, tripods , cameras and more . This will begin to be a benefit for me to be learning a small portion of what i want to be working with full time after several years but of course it'll take time and various educational debates and sit-down interviews with other members of staff to discuss my further employment and what is best for my future which may include working in the world of radio long-term or to perhaps look somewhere else if they recommend moving away from the business.

Pros and cons of working within the media industry and for a radio station:

pros:

-Working with Independence to a certain extent

-Certain perks e.g. free cafeterias, paid maternity and medical benefits which for me is epilepsy

-Working for a ' real time ' job, any breaking news or certain events that occur on air will need to be covered

-Financial rewards , e.g high salaries is possible and a big pay-off if the company does succeed to a high level publicly.

- the co-workers that will be part of the team that i'll be joining will have numerous years experience and will help out with anything that i might not be sure about.

CONS:

- limited security

- constant deadlines

- long working hours

- Constant learning

- Compensation, their is a possibility that some jobs don't provide benefits from the beginning and also the possibility of having to relocate if there is a possible promotional opportunity or be offered a better job that has more pros than cons.

Work experience opportunities:

The possible opportunities that i knew were possible from what i had learnt from this course so far were, to work for a media related company in town - Maidstone media council and durty media. Another possible option i had was to volunteer work as a runner at a TV production building to help out members of TV casts and directors. The final opportunity i was offered was to work for a local politician in tonbridge and borough green council, what was required for this was, to be able to film outside in different environments, filming by the woods and by the motorway. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and will possibly have more opportunities like this in the future as i have been offered some part time work but very spaced out. Because i was helping in a political campaign ( J5-slips.com ) this has helped me learn more about the community, i further helped on a 10 year plan and with both of the videos filmed , one having 5000 views and the other over 16,000 this drastically helped with the petition that needed 50,000 signatures from the video that i produced and from this over 8,000 signatures for the campaign have been made.

The junction 5 that people are unable to turn off the motorway instead of having to drive down the longest road in the U.K this causes multiple problems for lorry drivers blocking the roads from Godstone to Sheerness. The positives to take from this is that i have now worked officially for a political based company that are very happy with what i have produced for them and how happy they are with the results from the videos made have effected the petitions. The only negatives that can be taken from this is that i could've used this for my FMP and that it may have been a more interesting topic to discuss about, however i feel that it was best to do it on epilepsy and showcase this as my work experience to show the very interesting subject that i was working on.

Applying for WORK , GAP YEARS AND UNIVERSITY:

Their various ways that you can apply for a course the most obvious going to the local job centre and seeing whats available. I have visited this many times and have asked of any vacancies that can be applied for very easily, you can do this on websites such as indeed, totaljobs.com and jobsite.com, register with any of these sites and your job hunt will become a lot easier in no time, be sure to add a covering letter though as this will further help with opportunities as well as your CV, which needs to be updated as you progress through education and previous part-time jobs. There are other ways that you are able to apply for jobs, one being that a friend or relative might be working for a industry that you wish to look into or they might be able to confront a senior member of a team that they work for that can then further influence you and the chance of working in your dream job. Parents will try to help in any which way they can and if there is possible opportunities that they can create for you or other family members then they will do so.
